"Well we're movin' on up (movin' on up) . . ."   Late September 2003  ][ Back ]

I finally moved into my new, cozy place. I use the word "cozy" in order to avoid the word "small." The Polish is even better: "przytulny," from the verb "przytulia," which can be translated "snuggle" — certainly an apt description for my apartment.

Originally it was two separate rooms, each with a bathroom and little else. Eventually I talked the powers that be into joinning the two "apartments" together and converting one bathroom into a small kitchen.

Then I had some furniture made to order at a cabinet maker's shop, bought some lamps, found a refrigerator and moved it. It's far from perfect, and I haven't even bought all the furniture I need/want, but it's now habitable.

Of course the logical thing to do when you have a habitable apartment is to invite friends over and have a party.

At first, it was a bit hollow-sounding
