The plan was to go to Bielsko to see a concert. The weekend
was built around the concert, for without it, I'm not sure
I would have gone to Bielkso. Don't get me wrong it's
a pleasant enough city, but it's never been terribly high
on my "Must Visit" list, especially when my sole
friend there is not there. Still, it was an enjoyable
weekend.
Saturday
Naturally
one of the first places we went to was the
church. Naturally, like most churches in Poland,
it was locked, but one could peep get a glimpse
of the interior, or kneel to pray in the anteroom
whichever you might prefer.
We also visited a castle with a fairly nice gallery,
but I'd forgotten to ask if I could take pictures,
so I decided to be safe and respectful. (I
never have understood why pictures aren't allowed
in some places. Of course, I know why flash
photos aren't allowed, but regular pictures?
Perhaps building owners just don't trust people
to make the distinction.) Anyway, we also visited
the old town hall, which being out in the open,
was fair photographic game. |

For a long time, Bielsko was more
German than Polish, and the
accompanying Protestantism left
it's mark, for Bielsko has a
statue completely unexpected
in a country that is 95+% Catholic.
That's right! It's everyone's
favorite rabidly-anti-Semetic
religious reformer, Martin Luther. |

Sunday
A lazy day, most of which we spent trying to
find yet another wooden church, which was of
course locked. What is it with locked churches
in this country!?! Locked on SUNDAY!
I just don't get it.

 |
| After
wandering around
looking for the
locked wooden
church, we had
a bit of time
to kill, so we
spent it sitting
by and wading
in a probably
horridly polluted
stream |

Miscellaneous Views |
 |
 |
| Bielsko was
very conducive to pictures of alleys.
I took several pictures of several
alleys, but most of them were not
digital. (And who wants to see a
bunch of alleys?) |
