"The Night Before Christmas"   December 2002  ][ Back ]

Lots to do in the school around Christmas time: decorations, choir rehearsals, the teachers' Christmas party to prepare, among other things. And there were all the classes clamoring to be taught Christmas carols. Nothing like singing "Jingle Bells" ten times daily. Still, it was surprising how willingly — even joyfully and enthusiastically — the kids sang.

Below is a brief summary of all the holiday hałas of the last week of school.

First there was the question of decorating everything. (The folks here are in class 4b.)
With help of Wiola, a 4th year student, I decked the bulletin board with boughs of holly. Well, at least Christmasy stuff. It might be difficult to discern, but it is an illustrated version of "The Night before Christmas."
Each class also did a little something in their individual rooms.

The Night before Christmas

The girls who participate in the after-school, extra English classes prepared a short enactment/recitation of the famed, "The Night before Christmas." The first step was creating a chimney for Santa, as well as a window for the "father" to look through. (Igor, a 2004 graduate, helped out, and a few first year students (sophomores in the States) looked on.)

Next, we needed a "father" for the performance, so a young man by the name of Andrzej was rercruited, given a pipe, and told to look sullen. And naturally we had to have a Santa, played by Wiola Machaj.

After several hours of work, the fireplace and window were completed, ready for Andrzej and Wiola's English acting debut.

Performance

Finally it came time to shows the students and teachers what they were capable of.
